According to that ancient tradition, health is achieved through the harmonious balance between the opposing forces of yin (spirit) and yang (blood). The attraction between them creates an energy known as Qi. This energy flows to all parts of the body through channels called meridians, pathways that run along the surface of the body and branch into the body's interior. Any imbalance in those forces is believed to cause illness. So, when needles are placed at prescribed spots, called acupoints, along the meridians, balance and health are restored.

There is very little difference how Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Western Medicine view the human body. The main difference is the focus of the medicine because of the need at the time in which the two types of medicine arose.

TCM focuses on strength, vitality, fertility and virility. Everything the body needs to grow and repair itself is in the blood. It is believed that if there is a blood flow problem, an involved organ starts to deteriorate/malfunction and the disease process starts. TCM does not treat symptoms. The focus is to push Qi and blood into the area where there are problems and to treat the function of the body.

What to expect during an acupuncture session: During a treatment, very thin, solid, hairlike needles are inserted at specific points on the body. The stimulation of these acupuncture points affects both the central and peripheral nervous systems. It triggers the release of the body's internal chemicals such as endorphins and enkephalins, which have pain-relieving properties.

Many acupuncturists use a method where needles are inserted directly into the area of pain. The problem with this approach is that one always runs the risk of aggravating the pain and the results are not consistent or reliable. I practice a different style of acupuncture. This method is over 3,000 years old and is derived from the I-Ching, one of the oldest books in the world. This method has several names such as: "I-Ching Acupuncture," "Balance Method," “Distal Point Acupuncture."

The acupuncture points used are from the elbows to the fingers, and from the knees to the toes, occasionally, on the abdomen, scalp and ears. Consequently, the patient rarely has to take off their clothes and the treatments are efficient, comfortable and effective. Pain relief usually occurs in seconds and long lasting relief over a series of treatments is at least 80%.

OTHER MODALITIES:

Cupping: Stagnation in the body is removed by bringing toxins to the surface to be released through the open pores. The increased blood flow into the area of cupping also allows the area to heal more quickly. Cupping has been found to affect the body up to four inches into the tissues, causing these tissues to release toxins, activate the lymphatic system, clear colon blockages, and help activate and clear the veins, arteries and capillaries.

Moxibustion: Moxibustion is used to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of Qi, and maintain general health. The sensation that moxa produces is a pleasant heat that penetrates deep into the skin. In traditional Chinese medicine, moxibustion is used on people who have a cold or stagnant condition. The burning of moxa expels cold and warms the meridians, which leads to smoother flow of blood and Qi.

For more information, please go to "Acupuncture Links" on the right tab.
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; After a hip injury at the age of 16, the only options available to me at that time were to take pain medication, muscle relaxants and to obtain repetitive x-rays to figure out what was going on. When I got involved in fitness training and competition, I discovered chiropractic care, acupuncture, herbs, and the importance of quality and natural nutrition for the body to maintain good health and heal properly.

CHINESE NEW YEAR 2008

I was fortunate to have one of my longtime patients, Ben Williams, take me to the Hsi Lai Temple for Chinese New Year celebration. It has been ranked as one of the ten most scenic cities in China. When I was in China for one month in 2006, due to my inability to communicate and read Mandarin, I had difficulty finding a way to go hiking. Something I do at least a couple of times a week on the hills near my home back in Los Angeles. Luckily, I met some foreign students, who have been studying there for a while, who introduced me to an adventurous group of locals and foreigners that go up to the mountains on certain weekends to hike. They charged about $15 to take you up there and back by mini bus. You may camp for free, or stay in a youth hostel type place for about $6 a night.
Contact WeiWei at: Escape Outdoors, 365-1 Fengqi Road, Hang Zhou (one block from the foreign bookstore) email - cnhz@mail.hz.zj.cn

Graduating Class of 1991-1992

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; After the course of treatments, you will have a new brighter looking face and renewed self-confidence, but you will retain the most important thing, you.

Reduce wrinkles, eye bags, dark circles, puffiness, age spots, and "crow's feet." Increase collagen, muscle tone, and moisture in your skin. Eliminate fine lines, discoloration, stress and anxiety. Brighten eyes, lift eyelids, firm jowls, and tighten pores.

Course of treatment
The Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation course of treatment includes approximately a two-hour initial visit with an intake and treatment, and approximately ten follow-up treatments for one hour each. The required number of follow-up treatments can be less or more depending on the individual. A person's daily exposure to toxins and other elements also contributes to the ultimate duration of the course. You should start to see truly significant differences after about the fourth visit.

Why Acupuncture?
Your doctor cannot do this treatment, and neither can your esthetician. That's because Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation is a bona-fide Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment that is tailor-made to your unique constitution. The needling points and techniques are not one-size-fits all. Only a Chinese Medicine practitioner specially-trained in the principles of Chinese Medicine and facial acupuncture can properly diagnose which needle-points will get the results you need.

Advantages over cosmetic surgery
For one thing, it is not surgery! Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation is a safe, cost-effective, non-invasive, and chemical-free way to reduce wrinkles, firm skin, and erase the signs of age.

There is no "recovery time." Week after week, you will come to your pampering treatments and soon see the results develop. It won't be long before friends start telling you that you "look good" and ask you what your secret is.

You retain the real "you." Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation does not alter your bone structure or move your skin to a place it was never meant to be. Essentially, the treatment repairs your skin similar to the way in which regular acupuncture repairs the tendons in someone suffering from tennis elbow.

Does it hurt?
The face needles are ultra-thin acupuncture needles and are virtually undetectable when inserted.

Does it really reduce wrinkles?
Yes. Reduction in wrinkles around the face and "crow's feet" around the eyes can be very dramatic. However, the lifestyles of the individual come into play as well. Insufficient sleep, or high exposure to sun or smoke, for example, can impede progress on some of your major goals.

How long do the results last?
The most dramatic results can last anywhere from 18 months to three years. Some benefits will stay with you forever. Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation repairs and restores the health and vitality that your skin enoyed in prior years. But time and gravity are inevitable, and your skin may eventually become damaged again. To curb this result, you can repeat the full course of treatment altogher down the road, or come in for periodic maintenance treatments. Unlike cosmetic surgery, no one will ever tell you that you've had too much acupuncture.

Esoteric Acupuncture - Chakra Balancing

Discern the Whisper Pattern: Heals Emotional Heart
Spirit Path Pattern: Opening to inner wisdom
Esoteric Shaoyin Heart Pattern: Opens Heart and Kidney energy; Deepens a person's self actualization
Indigo Triangle Pattern: Increases awareness and intuition.
Cube on Cube Pattern: Increases ability to create a balanced life
Crown Infinity Pattern: Increases intuitive creativity in life

These are two of the many patterns of Esoteric Acupuncture (Click on picture to enlarge)

Esoteric Shaoyin Heart Pattern

The Esoteric Shaoyin Heart Pattern consists of nineteen acupuncture points. 19 in Esoteric Numerology represents "All There Is". This pattern has two distinct phases, but integrated as one. The first phase consists of the thirteen points of Discern the Whisper. The second phase consists of six acupuncture points. The first four acupuncture points in this phase are the same as the Esoteric Shaoyin Kidney Pattern. Instead of using bilateral Di Chong (Kidney-1) points, the Esoteric Shaoyin Heart Pattern will use bilateral Shenmen (Heart-7) points. The difference between the two Esoteric Shaoyin Patterns is that one places more emphasis on the vibratory rates of the various levels of the heart, while the other focuses on the anchoring and grounding aspects of the kidney.

Esoteric Shaoyin means the energies of the heart (love) and kidney (fear). We will be working with multiple triangularization. An upward pointing triangle symbolizes the energies of fire and the heart, while a downward pointing triangle symbolizes the energies of water and kidneys.

The patient will visualize the color gold coming into his/her Crown Chakra region. Gold can be of any shade as long as it is gold and not yellow. If the client has another color that he/she prefers it is all right to use that color, but gold is a much more powerful frequency.

Excerpts and pictures from Esoteric Acupuncture by Dr. Mikio Sankey

Auricular Acupuncture

Needles are retained for about 30 minutes or seeds are pressed into the ear (like acupressure) and taped in place for three to seven days. This system of treatment was developed by Dr. Richard Tan, with strong influences from Master Tung and Dr. Chao Chen’s I Ching Acupuncture.

ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT

It is a common misconception that acupuncture should be given to the affected area of a patient’s disease. This concept of “local” treatment is actually less effective and misses the magic of acupuncture theory. The body possesses a complex system of connections, primarily made of nerves and blood vessels. Acupuncture uses its meridian system to describe the functional organization of these connections to help relieve pain and improve bodily functions. As Dr. Tan famously tells his students, “the switch is not on the light”, meaning that the local area is not the ideal location for treatment.

The Balance Method uses distal acupuncture points on the arms and legs to treat all aspects of the body. So if you come to our clinic complaining about knee pain, the one place we won’t put a needle is in your injured knee. By choosing “remote control” acupuncture points, we can have the patient move the affected area during treatment to observe the clinical effects. Balance Method acupuncture is unique in its ability to obtain instantaneous results for pain. After insertion of the needles, most patients can immediately feel a decrease in pain level and improved range of motion.

A LOGICAL APPROACH TO ACUPUNCTURE

The I Ching acupuncture system works by superimposing the trigrams of the ba gua (the solid and broken lines seen surrounding the Yin Yang symbol above) over each of the 12 regular meridians, and their primary points on the arms and legs. Needling these points alters the polarity of the point from a solid line to a broken line, or visa versa, much like a switch. Selection of the correct points balances the meridians, regulating pain and organ function.

Ba Gua

NAET - Allergy Elimination Technique

The brain provides warnings to the body whenever blockages occur within the energy pathways. These warnings include illness, pain, inflammation, fever, heart attacks, strokes, abnormal growths, tumors, and various physical, physiological and psychological discomforts. If the symptoms are minor, blockages are minor. If the symptoms are major, blockages are major. Minor blockages can be unblocked easily, whereas major blockages take a long time to unblock.

Dr. Nambudripad's discovery, NAET®, is an innovative and completely natural method for regaining better health with often permanent freedom from allergies and the diseases arising from those allergens.

From the Official NAET website
